Drupada asked the Pandavas, "Should I regard you as Brahmins or Kshatriyas? I mean, how should the wedding rituals be conducted? As per Brahmin customs or those of Kshatriyas?"
Yudhishthira saw no point in carrying on the charade. "O King of Panchala, we are Kshatriyas—the sons of the late King Pandu."
"If you are indeed the Pandavas, tell me how you survived the blaze at Varanavata."
Yudhishthira narrated the entire story, from Vidura's warning, to the tunnel they used to escape. Drupada empathized with the Pandavas and had harsh words for Dhritarashtra. "What else can be expected from a weak and disabled ruler? I will help you reclaim your kingdom. Until then, please stay here as my guests."
He then asked when Arjuna intended to marry Draupadi.
"All five of us are going to marry Draupadi," replied Yudhishthira. "This was our mother's command."
Drupada appeared confused. "What do you mean?" he said. "Polyandry is not well received in society."
