A donkey and a cock lived in an enclosure. One day, a lion snuck into the enclosure and was about to attack the donkey when the cock saw what was happening and started crowing loudly. The lion, frightened by this strange noise, ran back into the forest.
The foolish donkey thought, "The lion—the so-called king of the jungle—is afraid of a mere cock. I ought to chase him; then all the animals in the jungle will greatly respect me."
So he began chasing the lion. Suddenly, the lion turned around, pounced on him, and killed him.
Pride begins in ignorance and ends in ruin.
