A neighbor invited Tenali Rama and his wife to dinner. So Rama asked the emperor for permission to go home a little early. The emperor consented. After Rama returned home, he and his wife went to the neighbor's house and had a fulfilling meal.
The next day, the emperor asked Rama, "What did you have for dinner last night?"
"Your Majesty, we had rice, curry, and ..."
Rama was interrupted by a messenger delivering a message to the emperor.
A few days later, Rama paid his respects to the emperor. "What news, Rama?" said the emperor.
"Laddoo, Your Majesty."
The emperor wondered what Rama was talking about. Consequently, Rama said, "Rice, curry, and laddoo."
The emperor remembered that he hadn't let Rama finish what he was saying the other day. Pleased with his intelligence, he gifted him a pearl necklace.
